March fashion magazines are on the stands and stores are stocking their spring merchandise. Even though it's still a few weeks away, that doesn't mean we can't get into the spring spirit. And while activewear doesn't traditionally have "seasons" like ready-to-wear fashion does, I found through my trend research that Dona Jo is right in line with this seasons styles, prints, and silhouettes. At Dona Jo, we are ALL about fashionable and highly functional activewear! Here are three spring 2014 trends that I discovered while flipping through Vogue, Marie Claire and Elle magazines.
A lot of ready-to-wear runway shows seemed to be influenced by sportswear. I noticed a transition from color-blocking into a color-emphasizing trend--using a pop of color at a seam to accentuate an area. Also spotted were hooded jackets, mesh details, sneakers in place of heels, and actual track suits transformed into everyday street-wear. Looks pictured from left to right: DKNY, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Céline.
This is great news, JoJos! Even though I'm sure we all do this anyway, this makes your workout clothes completely acceptable as daywear. (In fact, I think us fit gals may have sparked this as a trend to begin with!) The Grey/Acai Spinning Legging pictured here is a high-performance legging, but also a flattering piece to throw on to run errands. The Acai Kangaroo Bra also fits perfectly with this trend for its functionality (supportive sports bra that holds your phone, ipod, keys, etc) and has the sporty lines and mesh fabric found on the runways.
This next trend was hard to miss! Energetic prints in bright colors popped off the runway. Some prints were geometric while others were more abstract--either way they made a strong visual impact. Pictured from left to right: Céline, Dsquared², and Alexander McQueen.
Our printed JoJo leggings are a signature yet ever-changing Dona Jo look. The graphic and bright Graffiti JoJo Leggings almost look like a RTW runway piece. If you didn't feel like a model in them already, you should now! The Diamond Print Missy Bra fits right in with this trend as well. Mixing prints is an on-going trend that I like to partake in and I may dare to pair these two, but they also can be combined with a Dona Jo solid legging or tank.
There was a definite tribal trend existent last spring and it appears to be picking up speed this year. It seems to have taken off into a global theme, though the bohemian native feel is still very much present. Tribal motifs, feathers, and of course snakeskins (among other animal prints) were found at (left to right) Valentino, Alexander McQueen, and Donna Karan plus others. Snakeskin seems to be a staple at Michael Kors!
This boho, wild & free spirit is very much in sync with Dona Jo's style. Snakeskin has been present in our past collection and can be found in a brightened version of the Rio Legging pictured here. Not only that, but the Feathers print in the Missy Bra here is a JoJo favorite! Also pictured is a new print that's just been released called "Aztec"--so don't expect this trend to end anytime soon!
